Editing in the new website
This new website adopts the Wordpress Block Editor for all the content created by members. The block editor (sometimes referred to as Gutenberg) is a core part of Wordpress and means your content will remain supported for years to come.
We have migrated hundreds of pages and posts from the old website, into this new website and into the block editor. For some content such as information about Groups the site uses partly the block editor and also predefined data fields.
Wordpress themselves provide a comprehensive introduction with videos and links to many more pages.
This site also contains the classic editor (you can switch between them) but the classic editor is intended for simpler purposes. You can edit content made using the classic editor, but not edit blocks in the classic editor.
The presentation of your content and the pages themselves are built using a professional page editor which is more complex and not something we would expect members to use.
Once you login, your account will have been given permission to access and edit certain Admin areas of the site. Areas you might access include:
- Groups
- Events (events for a group, shows or tours)
- Image library (coming later)
- Encyclopaedia (coming later)
- Products
- Users, subscriptions and memberships
Accessing the admin pages
Use the Login button to get into the site, you should see the black Wordpress admin bar at the top. If not follow this link to reach the dashboard.
On the left you should see the areas of content you can add to or edit.
For all articles, diaries, news, show results and reports, use Posts, in the old site was called News.
When you edit or add something, the Block Editor may not show initially, click the link shown here:
The block editor layout
- Top left: Blue + button, add a block
- Black staircase / 3 lines button: Show the page structure
- Right hand side: Properties of the block you clicked on, or click in the top right to see properties of the post itself
Settings and Preferences
- Click the three dots menu in the top right to see various preferences and more settings
- I recommend clicking "Top Toolbar" to move the floating bar up to the top of the screen
